Adapting to Hollywood!
April 1 - 3, 2016 pm ♦ Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City
Registration ♦ Draft Schedule ♦ Hotel Information
Do you hanker to see your novel on the big screen? Perhaps it is more suited for a half hour sitcom. Well here’s your chance to make that happen.
Keynote speaker Megan Abbott recently scripted Dare Me and The Fever for television production and will illuminate both the creative and business aspects of adaptation.
Sisters in Crime in Hollywood will begin at 8:00 am on Friday, April 1, 2016 with a group breakfast at the Hilton. Airport and shuttle information will follow. The conference will end at 12 noon, Sunday, April 3.
Friday morning the conference kicks off with Pam Veasey leading the workshop on how to pitch your novel to Hollywood. She is currently the executive producer of CSI:Cyber. She’s worked in TV for 25 years as a writer and producer on shows ranging from comedy (In Living Color) to drama (The District) to police procedural (CSI: NY). Pam is on the faculty of the University of Southern California where she teaches television writing. This will be followed by an opportunity to do a 5-minute pitch to a producer, development executive or agent. Separate registration is required as space is limited to 60 for this exciting opportunity. You must select this as an "event ticket" (it costs nothing) if you want to reserve your spot.
Saturday and Sunday panels offer information and advice from screenwriters, producers, development executives, story analysts, agents, and attorneys. (Stay tuned for more details about panelists.) Hollywood insiders will discuss the adaptation process from a screenwriter’s point of view, how to get past the gatekeepers, what actors/producers are looking for, and advice from deal-makers. See draft schedule for more information (subject to change).
Once you get yourself to California, the Hilton special room rate for attendees is $189 plus tax per night. There is a special registration link that will be provided during the registration process in the thank you page. In addition to the website, people can call the hotel to make reservations. You will need to provide our group code: SINCHW. The Hilton is offering 3 nights before and 3 nights after for attendees to stay at the above conference rate. Hotel information here. Best of all the conference registration is free for you as a SinC member.
We are collecting $100 in “earnest money” when you register. It will be returned when you arrive at the conference. Continental Breakfast and Lunch will be included in your registration. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy dinner with other attendees or on their own. Dinner will be the responsibility of the attendee.
