Publishing Summit Report 2016
Share |

We are delighted to present Sisters in Crime’s 2016 Publishing Summit Report on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Mystery Community, titled Report For Change (click here for full report). As you remember, we collected data from SinC members, along with stories and anecdotes about the publishing experience of writers of color, LGBT writers, and writers with disabilities. We have compiled the data and stories into this report, along with our recommendations for changing the publishing landscape. Sisters in Crime is dedicated to broadening publishing opportunities for authors of all backgrounds, and we hope you'll join our charge!

How you can help:

  • Share the report on social media, using #ReportForChange so everyone can follow the conversation. Sample posts include:
    • The @SINCNational Publishing Summit Report is out, analyzing diversity in the mystery genre:
    • It's time to diversify the mystery genre, and I'm glad to be a part of an organization that's leading the charge
    • “We can all get with vampires and werewolves . . .but black women are not like us? Come on!” ~@SINCNational #ReportForChange
  • Send the report to your agent, publishers, editors, and publicist, and ask them to help spread the word.
  • Coordinate outreach with your local SinC chapter to identify diverse mystery authors who may not be familiar with SinC.
  • Talk to your local library and bookstore about diversifying their shelves, with help from Frankie’s List.
