Volunteer Opportunities

Are you interested in giving back to your community? Sisters in Crime is a volunteer-run organization made possible by the efforts of members who choose to get involved. Below find details on current open volunteer positions.

We are currently seeking members to monitor reviews in regional publications and education committee volunteers. Neither of these is a board member position, but both report to a board member liaison.

Review Monitor

For thirty years, the Sisters in Crime Monitoring Project, which tallies reviews accorded books authored by men vs. women, has been fundamental to our mission to seek parity. Because we are expanding the scope of our review and several long-term Monitoring team members are retiring, we need additional Monitoring Committee members. Your task will be to count reviews of mystery books written by men and women in designated periodicals and to submit your counts on a quarterly basis to the Monitoring Project Chair. Subscription expenses may be covered by Sisters in Crime. For additional information, please contact Debra Goldstein at

We need volunteers to cover periodicals in the following places (print or online subscriptions acceptable):

  • Texas (Houston; etc.)
  • California (Los Angeles; San Francisco; etc.)
  • Illinois (Chicago)
  • Minnesota (Minneapolis)
  • Florida (Tampa, etc.)
  • Washington (Seattle)
  • Georgia (Atlanta)
  • Colorado (Denver)
  • Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)
  • Nevada
  • Oregon
  • Kansas City
  • Virginia
  • Arizona
  • Other places not mentioned

Education Committee Member

We are seeking two volunteers to make up the education committee. This committee works independently to plan, execute, and oversee projects to benefit our members at all levels. Projects can include webinars, podcasts, video series, tip sheets, classes, retreats, or other ideas; and may be presented at local chapters, on the website, on the listserv, or at conferences. Proposals that require funding would be submitted to and voted on by the board. For additional information, please contact Tina Whittle.

Due Date:  Responses should be received by October 6th for full consideration.

We appreciate your interest!

(members-only access, so be sure that you are signed in first)
